Welcome to Wekweètì. Wekweètì means, “rock lake” in the Tlicho language. Before August 4th, 1998 it was called Snare Lakes. Wekweètì is part of the Tlicho (Dogrib Dene) Land Claim and Self-Government Agreement, settled and ratified on August 25th, 2003, giving the Tlicho communities control over their own collective resources and governance. Wekweètì is the smallest Tlicho community with about 137 residents (2009). It has no road access, but it is the closest community to the Ekati Diamond Mine on the border with Nunavut.
